Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage DLC Error
After the previous article regarding Fallout 3 and the vertibirds I received an e-mail with the following screenshot and some techincal details, the sender hoping I could assist in solving the problem. Here is the screenshot:
Technical details:
- FalloutLauncher.exe v 1.0.9.000
- Fallout3.exe v 1.0.0.12
After reading through the documentation I drew the following conclusions:
- Operation Achorgage DLC (downloadable content) requires a Games For Windows account. Possibly all DLCs (Operation Anchorage, The Pitt and Broken Steel) require GFW.
- Fallout3.exe should be updated to version 1.0.0.15, at least. The current version is 1.5.
- I suspect the DLCs or the game itself were downloaded from a torrent since FOSE (Fallout Script Extender) cannot run on some versions (see the apropriate page). Normally Fallout 3 DLCs shouldn’t require FOSE in order to run. But they require specific versions of the executable file.
Symptoms:
- The radio signal from the brotherhood outcasts cannot be heard. Even if the player is in the vecinity, to the NE of the Nuka Cola Plant. Trying to reach them by foot is futile. The error above occurs.
- The radio signal regarding The Pitt cannot be heard.
- The game crashes if the palyer tries to finish the main quest (the quest about the water, Project Purity, if I recall correctly) in order to advance to Broken Steel (which requires the that main quest is completed).
Solution:
- Buy the game.
- Update, if necesary.
- Buy the DLCs.
- Install the DLCc.
- Enjoy the game.
